Learning to ride with Schwinn SmartStart Bikes at Toys“R”Us!

Disclosure: This post is sponsored by Lunchbox but all opinions are my own.

Learning to ride a bicycle for the first time is quite a milestone and teaching your child to ride can be a fun experience! It’s one of those memorable times in a child’s life that most will remember for years to come!

When it comes choosing the right bike, Schwinn has your family covered every step of the way! Established in 1895, Schwinn is the go-to resource for the recreational bike rider. They want to be part of your family’s journey and have created this fantastic resource for parents like us who might not know where to begin. In addition, the infographic below will help ease any concerns about teaching your little one to ride for the first time!

Schwinn SmartStart

Toys”R”Us has the largest selection of 16” bikes for kids and with that being said, they’re the perfect place to discover your child’s new Schwinn SmartStart Bike.

Schwinn SmartStart Burnout

Schwinn SmartStart Jamboree and Burnout bicycles feature a 16” wheel size which is the classic learn to ride size. The SmartStart bikes are built with a child’s proportions in mind and are light-weight for better stability. The grips are smaller for smaller hands, the pedals are closer together, and the geometry matches the pedal width to a child’s hip width. The seat is angled so that the body is positioned to make pedaling less stressful. In addition, the distance from the seat to the handle bars increases when the SmartStart seat is raised, increasing the reach distance and allowing the bike to grow with your child!

Schwinn SmartStart Jamboree

When your child is comfortable with riding, learning is less frustrating for the whole family. Plus, like all Schwinn bikes, SmartStart bikes have a limited lifetime warranty for as long as you own the bike!

Schwinn SmartStart Jamboree and Burnout bicycles are available at Toys“R”Us. You can find more information here!

Five ways to keep kids busy on a snow day!

This is a sponsored conversation on behalf of Verizon FiOS.

Although we haven’t experienced a snow day yet, with all this talk of snow here in the New York area I’m making sure I’m prepared for when E has to stay home from school! Of course we will be spending a small portion of time outdoors to play in the fluffy stuff but how do I keep her stimulated for the rest of the day? Here are five ways to keep kids busy on a snow day!

Snow day

1. Crafts!
We already do quite a bit of crafting and I’ve made sure to keep a box stocked with an array of items that can be used for different projects. Those items include:

  • Construction paper
  • Tissue paper
  • Markers
  • Crayons
  • Paint
  • Colored Pencils
  • Pipe Cleaner
  • Googly eyes
  • Buttons
  • Pom-poms
  • Glue Sticks
  • Hot glue gun
  • and more!

When it comes to particular projects, it really depends on the age range of your children. You’re going to want to chose something age appropriate. A good resource is Pinterest!  I pin a lot of projects I intend on creating with my kids. Don’t be afraid to let them create freely though! E loves being able to make her own little creations with the resources provided to her. Crafting seems to keep her occupied for long periods at a time and as a mom, I love that it encourages fine motor development and creativity!

2. Board games!
We have quite a collection of board games that are appropriate for all ages including classics like Trouble and Monopoly to newer games like Pie Face which has become a family favorite! Playing games with your children always makes for a fun bonding experience.

3. Fun in the kitchen!
E loves getting to make things in the kitchen with me. She doesn’t get to do it too often becasue I do most of the cooking and baking while she’s at school. Snow days make for a different and fun experience in the kitchen. Since shes so young, I’ve planned simple recipes for her to participate in the process such as making pancakes, scrambled eggs, and treats like cookies or muffins.

4. Cuddle up and watch a movie!
Movies are always a fun way to keep your kids occupied and interested for a longer period of time. I’ll typically use my FiOS Mobile app to see whats on TV or available On Demand. The Kids Zone Movies in the Featured section always has titles that the whole family can enjoy, no matter how old!

You can also check TV listings and what’s On Demand on the Verizon FiOS website!

5. Fun apps.
Learning doesn’t have to stop because your child is home! There are a ton of age appropriate educational apps available for different age ranges. ABC Mouse is one of E’s favorites and she also enjoys playing Captain McFinn’s Swim & Play app that encourages social and emotional growth which is important for children E’s age.

It’s important to have lightning fast internet speeds that you can count on and this is where Verizon FiOS comes in! With FiOS, I don’t have to worry about lag due to multiple devices being connected to our network. E can be one her tablet while I’m on my computer and/or connected with my phone. It’s as simple as that!

Taking the Plunge like Norm of the North! #BreakTheNorm #IC

This post was sponsored by Lionsgate as part of an Influencer Activation for Influence Central.

E is a lot like me in some ways. For one, it can be hard to get her to move out of her comfort zone depending on the situation. For the most part she is an outgoing and social kid but when first introduced to a situation, she can become uncomfortable. When E started Pre-K a few months ago, she was excited at the prospect of meeting new friends. When it got closer to the first day of school, she became a bit nervous and apprehensive. The big question is what can you do as a parent? One thing I did was gently encourage her to ‘take the plunge’. Although E was hesitant on her first day of Pre-K, I told her that she won’t know how it will be until she tries it! I made sure to point out the exciting things about starting school like meeting new friends and learning new things. Sure, there might be some obstacles along the way but that’s a part of growing up.

Taking the Plunge like Norm of the North! #BreakTheNorm #IC

In some ways E can totally relate to Norm, the main character in Lionsgate’s new film Norm of the North. In the movie, we are introduced to a big-hearted and talkative polar bear named Norm (sounds like a little girl I know 😉 ). Norm ventures from the Arctic to NYC to prevent his beloved home from being overtaken by developers. Not only does Norm take on the Big Apple and big business, he deals with a big identity crisis as he tries to save the day with the help of some friends!

Taking the Plunge like Norm of the North! #BreakTheNorm #IC

We are so excited for Norm of the North and in anticipation of it’s release, we created a polar bear craft and worked in this fun activity book pictured below!

Taking the Plunge like Norm of the North! #BreakTheNorm #IC

Our polar bear craft was super easy to put together and is appropriate for all ages! All you need is the following supplies:

  • White construction paper
  • Black construction paper
  • Glue
  • Scissors
  • Black pipe cleaner
  • Large googly eyes

Taking the Plunge like Norm of the North! #BreakTheNorm #IC

To create, trace and cut two large circles and two smaller circles using the white paper. Then using the two large circles, Glue the bottom circle partially on top of the other large circle. Paste the two smaller circles on top as the ears. Using the black paper, cut out nose shape and glue that toward the middle of the bear. After pasting the nose, glue the bears mouth on using the pipe cleaners. Once that’s finished, add the eyes and voila, you have your polar bear!

We also loved watching Norm dace the “Arctic Shake” in the video which you can play below! We have a lot of fun dancing and mimicking norm’s steps. C’mon and “Shake your Bear Thing” just like in the film!

Norm of the North arrives in theaters on January 15, 2016 and stars Rob Schneider as Norm and some other big names in entertainment including Heather Graham, Ken Jeong, and Bill Nighy! Bear to be different and see Norm of the North in theaters!
