My family does a lot of driving during the holiday season. With shopping, activities and visiting family, there’s always quite a bit of traveling involved. With that being said, staying safe while traveling is important! Here are some tips for safe driving during the holiday season!
Tips for Safe Driving during the Holiday Season!
Plan your route
Use your GPS or mapping app to plan your route ahead of time. Be prepared for things like traffic especially during this time of year. For longer trips, you may want to plan stops for refueling and rest.
Fill your tank!
A few years ago, I actually ran out of gas on my way to Thanksgiving dinner. I was by myself at the time and just a few miles away from my destination. Luckily, my amazing stepmom came to the rescue! Ever since then I have made sure that my gas tank is full when traveling anywhere!
Make sure to have a spare.
Do you have a spare tire? If not, you should! You honestly never know when you’re going to need one. This might be hard to believe, but we were in this position last Christmas. A nail in our tire almost ruined our holiday plans and unfortunately, we didn’t have a spare. However, we had another vehicle that we could use. We ended up having to replace the tire and made sure to purchase a spare to keep in our trunk!
When traveling any distance, it’s always a good idea to pack for emergencies. My husband and I have a first aid kit, snacks and water in both of our vehicles. During colder weather we’ll keep a blanket or two in the trunk. We also always have a flashlight and a kit with triangle reflectors just in case we ever break down.
