Never in a million years would I have thought I would be working from home. Before becoming a mom, I worked in the Early Childhood Education field for almost ten years. The plan was to continue a career in my field but things change and at some point, I switched direction and started working from home. There are so many things I love about it! For one, I get to be with my children. I also like the idea of being able to work at my own pace and make my own rules. With this being said, It sometimes can be hard to stay on track. Here are a few tips I use for being productive when working from home!
Tips for being productive when working from home!
Keep a schedule
I find it very important to keep a schedule. I set regular working hours just like any other business. I keep all of my tasks on a calendar and list everything that needs to be done for each day. I also give each task a time frame to be completed in. With this being said, you should keep your scheduling within your set hours.
Get rid of distractions
My biggest distractions are social media and my kids. When it comes to distractions, try your best to avoid them and stick to your schedule. I often use my cell phone for personal social media use so I keep it away from my desk when I’m working.
When it comes to my children, Luckily my oldest will be going back to school soon and I’ve been able to manage with my youngest at home. I can keep them occupied with toys and different activities. It helps to arrange tasks when my little one is napping during the day. We also have a huge selection of shows and movies they can watch on FiOS on Demand so that keeps them occupied when mom is busy too!
Create a positive working environment
I always surround myself with things that will positively influence my mood and work flow. I bounce around between my desk and kitchen table but no matter where I’m working, I make sure the space I’m working in is tidy and not cluttered. I also occasionally use background noise like music. It sometimes helps me to think more clearly if I’m finding it hard to get through a task.
Give yourself a break
Just like if you were to work in an office, you should get a break. I can tell you from experience that overworking yourself can make you less productive. Taking breaks gives you time to collect yourself and recharge which helps give you the energy for whatever your next task may be.
Have a fast and reliable network
Let’s face it, It almost impossible to work with a slow network, especially if your type of work is internet based. Doesn’t everyone want the fastest internet available? With a fast and reliable network, you get more done! As a digital influencer (the fancy title I gave myself) my work is internet based and I can’t be waiting for webpages to load and that sort of thing. Every second counts! With that being said, I’m happy to say that Verizon FiOS has me covered with lightning fast speeds and a reliable network. In addition, our upload speeds are as fast as our download speeds.
