If you’re looking for the perfect holiday gifts for toddlers or young preschoolers, VTech has learning toys ideal for the little ones in your life! We recently received VTech’s Chomp & Count Dino, Sit-to-Stand Smart Cruiser, Grow-Along Music Center, and Smart Shots Sports Center to play with. We had the opportunity to explore these toys with E (age 3), and her cousins Mikey (age 4) and T (13 months).
VTech Chomp & Count Dino (Age 12-36 months, MSRP: $19.99)
The VTech Chomp & Count Dino features eight brightly colored play pieces that kids can use to “feed” the Dino by placing them in it’s mouth. It also responds with fun sounds and phrases as the Dino introduces colors, numbers, shapes and even the foods that are pictured on the eight play pieces.
The Dino also had a “question” button on top of its head that can be pressed and the Dino will ask a questions and prompt the child to do an action for example, feeding the Dino a few pieces of “food” which is encouraging learning by having the child count and also promotes recognition of numbers and food types.
Kids can learn shapes and numbers by pressing any of the dino’s five shape buttons. The dino also has a pull string so little ones can “walk” it by pulling it along on a surface.
All three kids clearly had a lot of fun with Dino! The older ones love to “feed” him and play games while T seemed to have a blast exploring the different buttons on the Dino.
I love that they are learning colors, shapes and numbers as a they play. As a parent, I appreciate that the toys is promoting cognitive development and the Dino is a toy that children can grow with. Another nice feature is that the eight play pieces can be put in the Dono’s tummy for easy storage!
VTech Sit-to-Stand Smart Cruiser (Age 6-36 months, MSRP: $39.99)
The Sit-to-Stand Smart Cruiser is a 2-in-1 toy that grows with your child! The steering wheel is detachable and can be played with apart from the cruiser and as your little one gets older, the steering wheel can be attached to the cruiser so that it can be used as a ride-on toy!
The steering wheel is interactive and features driving, learning and music modes. Tots can turn on the engine, move the gear shifter or press the horn to hear realistic driving sound effects. There are six places on the steering wheel that little ones can press and pretend to drive to and below those buttons are six animal buttons that play fun melodies.
I love the arrow buttons on the steering wheel which read “left” and Right” and help to teach the concept of direction.
This was another toy that all three kids have a great time playing with and riding on! I was surprised how much E and Mikey liked riding on it and they even fit on it comfortably! This type of toy is not only great for cognitive development but it also promotes gross motor skills becasue little ones will have to push off with their feet to get around while on the cruiser. The Cruiser is another fantastic toy that can grow with your child!
VTech Grow-Along Music Center (Age 12-36 months, MSRP: $29.99)
The Grow-Along Music Center features a microphone and five colorful keys that light up and correspond to children’s voices! the center has funny voice changing and amplifying effects the E and her cousins get a kick out of! There are also three instrument buttons that play guitar, drum and saxophone sounds as well as five animal piano keys introduce kids to instruments, colors and animals. Kids can choose between “Learn & Play” mode and “Sing-Along” mode.
The piano can be used without the stand for floor play with younger infants and toddlers. As you child grows, the piano can be placed on the stand and the stand can actually be adjusted to accommodate your childs height.
E loves this toy and enjoys singing into the microphone while playing with the different effects. This is another great toy that kids can grow with especially since the stand expands.
VTech Smart Shots Sports Center (Age 12-36 months, MSRP: $39.99)
The electronic Smart Shots Sports Center is a 2-in-1 toy featuring a soccer goal and basketball hoop. Toddlers can kick the soccer ball into the net which plays fun sounds! Kids can also toss the basketball into the hoop and the sensor will count each time a basket is scored (up to ten).
There are three buttons on Sports Center which introduce shapes, numbers, opposites, and even songs little ones can sing along to! By turning the gears or flip the page to hear fun phrases and sounds. The sports center also features a light-up screen that plays a variety of fun animations and shows numbers, shapes and letters.
Although geared for ages 12-36 months, The older ones really enjoyed playing with this one and switching between kicking the ball into the goal and tossing the ball into the basket. The Sports Center held their attention for a decent amount of time! It’s definitely a great toy for kids 2+ and perfect for encouraging fine and gross motor skills as well as cognitive development.
Even Though the toys are geared for toddlers, I feel that preschoolers will enjoy all of the learning toys mentioned above as well, at least that has been my experience with them so far!
I appreciate that kids are able to grow with all the toys and will get plenty of use out of the many features and leaning functions! I also love how all of the toys help to promote learning!
Which VTech toy or toys featured above do you think your little one would enjoy the most?
