Sea Pearls: Reusable Sea Sponge Tampons From Jade & Pearl

Did you know every year about 20 billion pads, tampons and applicators are sent to landfills here in North America alone? That’s a lot to wrap your head around, I know it was for me! How about this statistic: During a woman’s lifetime of menstruating, you will throw away about 16,800 pads or tampons.  Crazy, right? Another thing to consider is how those super absorbent tampons or heavy flow pads are filled with plastics, chemicals and other things. I recently came across a safe, convenient alternative to tampons and other costly menstrual products. Say hello to Jade & Pearl’s Sea Sponge Tampons!

Read it again if you must, shake your head, and bear with me. I was all for cloth pads but a sea sponge?! What did I have to lose, right? I am all for trying new things especially if they #1 save me money and #2 are better for my body.

Sea Pearls are super absorbent I was shocked as to how long they would actually last. To be honest, I didn’t think they would even work but not only do they work, they work wonderfully! About to get TMI here but once inserted, you forget that it’s even there and it really is quite comfortable. I know with conventional tampons I always worried about leaking and for good reason, there have been a few times in my experience where this has happened and go figure, I was either out in public or at work. With the Jade & Pearl Sea Sponge Tampons, I haven’t leaked once in my experience using them so far.!

I received is the Jade & Pearl Sea Sponge Tampons in a size Medium which retails for $15.00. When you break it down, It’s really cheap! I spend about $8 on a box of tampons and that lasts for 1 month, so $8 times 12 months is a whopping $96! Now, take that $96 and compare it to the $15 for your Sea Sponges that can be used for up to 6 months. Quite a difference! As long as the Sea Pearls are properly taken care of, they can last a very long time, up to 6 months! Again, I need to point out that these are a more natural way to deal with your menstrual cycle as well, no fillers and chemicals to worry about.

Cleaning your Sea Sponge after your cycle is surprisingly easy!  All you need to do is soak them for 5-10 minutes in a cup of warm water and either tea tree oil, apple cider vinegar, baking soda, or hydrogen peroxide. It’s that quick and simple and most of us have baking soda or hydrogen peroxide in our homes so you won’t need to run out and purchase anything special.

  1. I have stopped using tampons because I don’t feel they are healthy for a person. I have never heard of these before. Something to think about!

  2. This is definitely a very different concept..not for me…because I can’t get past my initial feelings about using a product like this, BUT I do love that they are a natural, healthy way to address menstruation.

  3. Very interesting concept. I never used tampons. I never liked the feel. However maybe if these were around back then I would have gave them a try.
