In June, I had the wonderful opportunity to attend the Philly Disney Social Media Moms On-the-Road celebration in King of Prussia, PA where I experienced a wonderful line-up of speakers, sessions and had the chance to interact with other influencers!
This might be a surprise but, I’ve never been to a Disney park! Lonnie and I are in the process of planning a trip to Disney World for our family which includes E and our baby boy who will be here in December! I was thrilled to be able to learn more about the parks and experience behind the scene previews.
The event began with pin trading! I’m totally new to pin trading but have heard about it before. If this is something new to you, Disney pin trading is where Disney Parks guests can trade Disney pins with cast members and with other guests. Each On-the-Road attendee received a pin to trade with another attendee. I started off with a Pirates of the Caribbean 40th Anniversary hinged pin and after looking around at the other pins and mingling with some of the other attendees, I ended up keeping my pin because it was just too cool to give up!
We heard from Gary Buchanan, Walt Disney World Social Media Managing Editor, who shared some neat stuff about the parks! Gary talked about the Seven Dwarfs Mine Train, a roller coaster attraction that recently opened up at the Walt Disney World park in the Fantasyland section of Magic Kingdom. Gary shared some behind the scenes fun!
I took a lot away from what Victoria Lim, Managing Editor at Walt Disney World Public Relations, shared with us. She provided some great tips and gear suggestions. I don’t create many videos but one tip she shared that sort of stuck with me was to be mindful of ambient noise and wind when conducting interviews. She shared some equipment and apps that she uses and that I now have downloaded or have purchased to use when taking photos or videos. Victoria recommended getting a smart phone camera lens kit which I just purchased off of Ebay a few weeks ago! It’s great for taking quality shots.
The second to last session was a panel discussion which included mom business owners and inventors, Amy Bradley of Toydozer, Kristi Gorinas of Dad Pack and Jen Groover of Butler Bag. All panelists were Huggies Mom Inspired Grant Winners! If you’re not familiar with the grant, The Huggies MomInspired Grant Program awards up to $15,000 to further the development of innovative products inspired by motherhood. They are accepting applications September 30, visit the Huggies MomInspired website for more information!
The panel talked about their mom (and dad) inspired inventions and the their experiences. They also discussed balancing work and home life which as a work at home mom, I sometimes a hard time doing. The panel was moderated by the amazing Maria Bailey who also chimed in about work and home balance.
Other speakers included Jamie Langdon, Walt Disney World Public Relations and Social Media Manager, Leanne Jakubowski, Director Social Media, Disney Parks, Jenn Fickley-Baker, Walt Disney World Social Media Manager, Lori Lorenz, Senior Director Direct Print Services at HP and Debi Silber, Author and Founder of The Mojo Coach.
On top of all I learned at the event, I had a lot of fun as well! There were props and fun backgrounds to take photos with and also some great giveaways for attendees. I actually ended up taking home a super cozy Social Media Moms Celebration blanket! We also ate a delicious breakfast and had some yummy snacks which included a sugar cookie. At the end of an event we had a special guest… Mickey Mouse!
Overall, Disney On-The-Road was such an amazing experience and I feel blessed to have been able to participate! I hope to have the opportunity to experience it again next year! My only regret is that I didn’t get to mingle with other attendees as much as I had wanted too! There were so many incredible bloggers there so if you were there and are now reading this, please comment! I would love to connect with you on some other level!
